I am pleased to announce that we have rescheduled Mr. Ernest Smith of Nawrocki Smith LLP to present on "2018 Tax Reform:  Past & Future Tax Fraud Discussion & Lessons Learned From the First Filing".

This meeting was originally scheduled for January 17th, 2019 but was cancelled due to impending bad weather.

We are excited to have Ernest Smith, Senior Partner at Nawrocki Smith LLP present for us.  Mr. Smith will be presenting on "2018 Tax Reform:  Past & Future Tax Fraud Discussion".  This presentation will provide a summary update to the 2018 Tax Cut and Jobs Act TCJA) as well as a discussion of tax frauds of the past as well as a look into the future. Mr. Smith will also discuss how the first filing under the new tax laws went and what we have learned from it.  The presentation will include a discussion of tax fraud prior to the new law and it's changes and tax frauds during 2018 under the new Act.  Also to be discussed are the types of fraud the Tax Act changes reduced verse the types that have emerged and/or increased.  The recently passed reform bill, commonly referred to as the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act, is the most expansive federal tax legislation since 1986.  It includes a multitude of provisions that willhave a major impact on businesses, individuals, tax exempt & government entities.

This presentation will explore tax fraud in relation to the provisions & new opportunities related to common fraud schemes & evasion which may include false income reporting, providing false information & identity theft.

Ernest Patrick Smith is a Senior Partner at Nawrocki Smith LLP.  In this capacity he oversees the Business Valuation, Forensic Accounting & Dispute Resolution Services (BVFDR) department which includes:

  • Business Valuation & Due Diligence
  • Economic Damages, Dispute Resolution & Litigation Support
  • Forensic Accounting & Investigative Auditing
  • Insurance Loss Consulting
  • Internal Audit & Internal Control Evaluation


Relevant Experience:  Mr. Smith specializes in investigative & forensic accounting services for the public & private sector in the litigation area with over 20 years of experience.  He also provides business valuation & damage estimation services relative to litigated matters.  On numerous occasions he has been qualified as an expert withness in NYS Supreme & Federal District Courts.

Mr. Smith is a veteran dispute resolution expert who has worked on engagements ranging from valuations of small local proprietorships to large national entities.  Working with attorneys, business owners, andinsurance professionals on matters of varying scope & geography has enabled Mr. Smith to craft a specialized strategy tailored to the unique aspects of every litigation & valuation project.  He is Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV), Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

Mr. Smith teaches & lectures on a wide range of forensic, valuation & accounting issues.  He is an Adjunct Professor of Accounting at Hofstra University teaching the first ever offered course in Fraud Examination & Forensic Accounting.

Professional Activities:  Mr. Smith is a member of the NYS Board of Certified Public Accountancy

Education:  Mr. Smith earned a BBA in Accounting from Hofstra University
